Winning Moves / Top Trumps - European Football Stars (2004) (03) - Wayne Rooney

2004
European Football Stars
Winning Moves / Top Trumps
33 cards

Laurent has provided scans of this Wayne Rooney card, wanting to know where it comes from. The design suggests it's from the 2004 European Football Stars set but Wayne Rooney isn't one of the 30 players in that collection - Winning Moves / Top Trumps - European Football Stars (2004). The design on the back of the card is almost identical, though the image of Michael Owen has been replaced by one of Wayne Rooney. I might be missing the point and there's a simple explanation for this card, if that's the case please get in touch if you know how or where this card was released.
UPDATE (19-03-2021 12:12):  George Simmons has provided a checklist for this collection, which is the second 2004 European Football Stars set on my blog. This collection includes Wayne Rooney, who replaces Adrian Mutu. Rooney is also shown on the card backs, replacing Michael Owen.

  1. With the Doctor Who Top Trumps there was an additional card released with a DVD.The card design was the same as the set that was out.

This could have been with a football DVD.

    1. I was wondering if it might be something like that, perhaps we'll find out at some point.

  2. I have noticed that there are 4 variations to this set from my collection. The most common one I have found replaces Owen with an Italian looking player (Not sure of the players name), but there is the Rooney version which is noted above which seems to be far rarer. And finally a back which matches the title card image. I've tried to contact Winning Moves/Top Trumps for more information on rarity etc but they didn't have any information unfortunately. I can share images of all 4 backs if needed

    1. Thanks for getting in touch. If you can supply any images that would be brilliant.
