  4. England v Hungary. November 25, 1953 - Billy Wright and Ferenc Puskas lead thir teams out on to the Wembley pitch for the historic game that the Hungarians won 6-3.
  5. Newcastle United v Manchester City. F.A. Cup Final, 1955 - Jimmy Scoular, the United captain is chaired by his team mates as they parade the trophy after beating City 3-1.
  6. Manchester City v Birmingham C. F.A. Cup Final, 1956 - Bert Trautmann, thr Manchester City goalkeeper dives at the feet of Peter Murphy in the incident which Trautmann broke his neck. City won the Final 3-1.
  7. Manchester United v Sheff Wed. FA Cup 3rd Rnd, 19-02-1958 - Bill Foulkes leads his team out on to the field just 13 days after the Munich air crash. United won the tie 3-0.
  8. Arsenal v Moscow Dynamo. October 5, 1954 - Jack Kelsey punches away a raid in the match at Dynamo Stadium. The match was played under floodlights before 70,000 Russian fans. Arsenal lost 5-0.
  9. Wolverhampton Wanderers v Portsmouth. F.A. Cup Final, 1939 - Stan Cullis, the Wolves captain, intorduces his team to King George VI before the game. Portsmouth defeated Wolves 4-1.
  10. England v Brazil. May 9, 1958 - Manchester United's Tommy Taylor heads the third goal in his countries 4-2 victory.
  11. Aston Villa v Manchester Utd. F.A. Cup Final, 1957 - Villa skipper Johnny Dixon is chaired by his team mates as he holds aloft the trophy after a 2-1 victory over United.
  12. Bath City v Millwall. FA Cup 1st Rd, 14-11-1959 - Millwall goalkeeper Reg Davies gathers the ball from three Bath City players. Non-league Bath defeated Millwall 3-1.
  13. West Bromwich Albion v Preston North End. F.A. Cup Final, 1954 - Ronnie Allen levels the score when he scores from the penalty spot. Albion were 3-2 winners.
  14. Manchester United - Champagne in the bath as the United players celebrate the winning of the Football League for the second season in succession (1956-57).

  19. West Bromwich Albion v Preston North End. F.A. Cup Final, 1954 - Albion captain Len Millard receives the trophy from the Queen Mother after his team had defeated Preston 3-2.
  20. Manchester United v Blackpool. F.A. Cup Final, 1948 - Johnny Carey, the United captain, introduces his team to King George VI. United won the final by 4-2.

  2. Manchester United v Bristol City. FA Cup Final 1909. A raid by Halse and James Turnbull on the City goal.
  3. Queens Park Rangers v West Bromwich Albion. FL Cup Final 1967. Rodney Marsh scores for Rangers to level the score. Rangers won the game 3-2 after trailing 2-0 at half-time.
  4. West Ham United v Preston North End. FA Cup Final 1964. The West Ham players parade the trophy around Wembley, having beaten Preston 3-2.

  3. Manchester United v Leeds United 1965. F.A. Cup semi-final. Several players become involved in a melee. Denis Law reels away with his shirt ripped. The game was drawn 0-0, with Leeds winning the replay 1-0.
  4. Manchester United 1963 F.A. Cup Final. Noel Cantwell receives the trophy from the Queen after United had defeated Leicester City 3-1.
  5. West Ham United v Crystal Palace Upton Park. F.A. Cup 1st Round, January 1914. Syd Puddefoot challenges the Palace goalkeeper. The Hammers won the tie 2-0.

  12. Colchester United v Leeds United Layer Road. F.A. Cup 5th Round, February 1971. In one of the Cup's big shocks Colchester beat Leeds by 3-2. Ray Crawford is seen scoring Colchester's second goal.
  13. Hereford United v Newcastle United Edgar Street. F.A. Cup 3rd Round, February 1972 Ricky George, the non-league club's forward scores the winning goal in the club's shock 2-1 victory.
  14. England v Wales Wembley, 1954 Ray Wood, the Manchester United goalie, reaches the ball before Trevor Ford, the Wales centre-forwar centre-forward can head it into the net.

  2. Derby County v Queens Park Rangers, Loftus Road, February 28, 1948. F.A. Cup 6th Round. Billy Steel, the Derby inside-forward beats George Powell to the ball to score past Reg Allen, the Rangers Goalkeeper. The game ended 1-1 with Derby winning the replay 5-0.
  3. Portsmouth v Manchester United, Fratton Park, February 15, 1950. F.A. Cup 5th Round replay. Johnny Downie, the United forward scores past Portsmouth goalkeeper Ernie Butler. United won the game 3-1.
  4. Arsenal v Leeds United, Highbury, March 04, 1950. F.A. Cup 6th Round, Harry Searson, the United goalkeeper, gathers the ball from the onrushing Denis Compton. Arsenal won the game 1-0.

  7. England v Scotland, Wembley, April 6, 1963. Jim Baxter scores his second goal of the game, beating Gordon Banks from the penalty spot. With only 10 men from the fifth minute Scotland won the game 2-1.
  8. Scotland v Holland, Mendoza, June 11, 1978. World Cup Finals. Archie Gemmill scores for Scotland in a game that Scotland needed to win by three clear goals to qualify for the next stage. Scotland beat Holland 3-2.
  9. Tottenham Hotspur v Bradford P.A., White Hart Lane, Ocotber 1, 1949. Ted Ditchburn, the Spurs goalie dives at the feet of Bradford forward Gerry Henry. Charlie Withers is on hend to help his goalkeeper. Eventual Division Two champions Tottenham won the game 5-0.
  10. Wolverhampton Wanderers v Charlton Athletic, Molineux, February 19, 1955, F.A. Cup Fifth Rd. Wolves goalie Bert Williams gathers a cross from Charlton forward John Hewie. Wolves won the tie 4-1.
  11. Manchester City v Blackpool, Maine Road, April 23, 1955. A shot from Blackpool forward Bill Perry beats Bert Trautmann, the City goalkeeper. Perry scored a hat-trick in Blackpool’s memorable 6-1 victory.
  12. Republic of Ireland v Norway, Oslo, 1955. George Cummings, the Luton Town inside-forward scores Ireland’s first goal in his countries 3-1 victory.
  13. France v England, Paris, May 15, 1955. French forward shoots past Bert Williams but wide of the goal. On hand are England defenders Billy Wright, Roger Byrne, Peter Sillett, Ron Flowers and Duncan Edwards. England lost the game 1-0.
  14. Arsenal v Hapoel Tel-Aviv, Highbury, September 24, 1957. Watched by Danny Clapton, Arsenal forward David Herd aims a shot at the Hapoel goal. Arsenal won this friendly game 10-2.
  15. Burnley v Tottenham Hotspur, White Hart Lane, September 7, 1957. Burnley goalkeeper Colin McDonald gathers a back pass from full-back Dave Smith. Spurs won the game 3-1.
  16. Clyde v Hibernian, Scottish Cup Final, April 20, 1958. Hibernian goalkeeper Leslie is beaten to the ball by Clyde forward Dan Currie, but the ball ran wide of the goal. Clyde won the final 1-0 with a goal from John Coyle.
  17. Burnley v Leyton Orient, Turf Moor, May 9, 1987. Ian Britton heads home the winning goal for Burnley who needed a victory to maintain their place in the Football League. Burnley won the game 2-1.
  18. Manchester City v Burnley, Maine Road, May 2, 1960. Burnley travelled to Maine Road needing victory to claim the First Division title. Ray Pointer watches as Brian Pilkington scores after four minutes. Burnley won 2-1 to claim the title which had eluded them for 39 years.

  3. Wales v Belgium. Ninian Park, Cardiff. November 1949. Tom Jones watches as the Belgian forward beats Bill Shortt but the ball goes wide. Wales won the friendly game 5-1.
  4. Rangers v East Fife. Scottish Cup Final 1956. Willie Thornton heads the third goal in Rangers emphatic 3-0 victory.
  5. Birmingham City v Manchester City. F.A. Cup Final 1956. Birmingham captain Len Boyd introduces his team to H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh. The Manchester team won the game by 3-0.
  6. Charlton Athletic v Derby County. F.A. Cup Final 1946. Turner of Charlton forces a corner off Leon Leuty with Woodley, the County goalkeeper unable to retreive the ball. Derby won the game 4-1 after extra time.
  7. Manchester City v Arsenal. April 10, 1937. Peter Doherty, the City forward hooks the ball over Arsenal goalkeeper Frank Boulton into the net to help City win the 1937-38 League Championship.
  8. Ireland v England. Windsor Park, Belfast. October 1935. England full-back Eddie Hapgood is seen making a strenuous effort to reach Joe Bambrick's header whilst Doherty, Smith, Barker and Male look on. England won the game 3-1.
  9. Everton v Arsenal. Goodison Park. May 5, 1928. The Arsenal goalkeeper punches the ball away from 'Dixie' Dean. Arsenal's Tom Parker is nearby. Dean set a new record by netting his 60th goal in the game, scoring a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw.
  10. England v Switzerland. Zurich. May 1939. England's Tommy Lawton is about to be tackled by the Swiss centre-half Andreoli. England won the friendly game 2-1.
  11. Leeds United v Celtic. European Cup semi-final. April 1970. John Hughes, Celtic's centre-forward heads the ball past Terry Cooper and Gary Sprake for Celtic's first goal. Celtic won the tie 2-1.
  12. Cardiff City v Arsenal. F.A. Cup Final 1927. Cardiff goalkeeper Farquharson punches the ball clear from Arsenal's Charlie Buchan. A goal from Ferguson gave the Welsh club a 1-0 victory.
  13. Manchester United v Cardiff City. October 1929. Tommy Taylor, the United centre-forward shoots for goal but his shot is blocked by goalkeeper Ron Howells. United won 1-0.
  14. Everton v West Bromwich Albion. F.A. Cup semi-final. Old Trafford, 1931. 'Dixie' Dean dives between team mate Tommy Johnson and Albion goalie Harold Pearson to head the ball. Albion won the game 1-0.
  15. Leyton Orient v Newcastle United. Brisbane Road. F.A. Cup 5th Round. February, 1926. Hughie Gallacher, of Newcastle is crowded out by three Orient defenders. Orient pulled off a shock by winning 2-0.
  16. Accrington Stanley v Hull City. September 1948. Eddie Burbanks scores to put the Tigers in front, in the game they won 2-1.
  17. Notts County v Nottingham Forest. April 1950. County beat their neighbours 2-0 before a record crowd of 46,000. County won the Third Division (South) title. Players in the picture are Adamson, Smith and Rigby.
  18. Northampton Town v Hendon. F.A. Cup 1st Round replay 1952/53. Cobbler's players Jack English and Willie O'Donnell challenge the Hendon goalie. The amateur side were defeated 2-0.
