I came across this the old photograph the other day. As it was produced by a firm in Bury, Lancashire, I thought the initials (EFC) on the jersey might refer to Everton Football Club. A friend of mine contacted the Everton Heritage Society but they don't think there's a connection between the player and the club. He's wearing a football cap but back in the 1880's that didn't mean too much as some schools presented caps to their players.
