  1. Hi Alan, the Shirley set and its three backs is from 1936. The Olympic athletes featured in the set and the images used on the cards are attributed to 1936. In addition, five football player's teams reflect their final seasons with the team on the card and a new one in the 1937 season. I am providing the research and sources below. Thank you.

    2. Thank you Alan. In addition, the set would be more accurately called Polak & co. (1936). The Shirley's Gum moniker is derived from a single back variation. While Polak & co. is credited on all variations. There are several more including: Haafkens & Versloot, N.V. Bakkerij "De Ster" Westerhoven, and Kobes Bakkerijen. I emailed pictures to you as it clarifies this. Thank you!

  2. Hi,
I agree with the comment saying the set should potentially be called Polak & Co.
Seems to be the only way to properly differentiate between all the different variations ( Haafkens & Versloot, Bakkerij de Ster, Kobes Bakkerijen etc.) without calling every variation their own set.

I would personally mention all known variations at the top of this page to make the info on this set as complete as possible.

    1. Hi,
Thanks for your comment. I intend to create posts for each of the different versions and I'll also mention Polak & Co as the copyright holders. According to my records not all the versions ran to 100 cards. Each post will include links to all the other similar checklists. I've been sent some photos of cards and on checking found that I had a couple of photos of albums that I didn't realise were for cards from these series. I hope to start adding the posts in a couple of days.
