The Outcasts F.C. - Postcard (1909-10)

1909-10
The Outcasts F.C.
1 postcard

The forerunner of the Professional Footballers Association was founded in 1907. By the summer of 1909 the Association of Football Players’ and Trainers’ Union and the Football Association were at loggerheads. The Union was banned and the F.A. told all players that if they didn't resign they would be suspended. Many players succumbed to the pressure, but the whole Manchester United team stood firm. Billy Meredith and Charlie Roberts were two of the foundeders of the Association of Football Players’ and Trainers’ Union. This photo was taken during pre-season training and Charlie Roberts hastily provided a name board for the occassion. An agreement was reached between the AFPTU and the F.A. just prior to the season kicking off.
UPDATE (15-06-2017 22:41):  Graham Bruton has informed me that T. Coleman was actually an Everton player.
