M.M. Frame - (FRA-080/FOZQ-2) Sport Stars

1950
(FRA-080/FOZQ-2) Sport Stars
M.M. Frame
48 cards

Harry Richards and Robert Muat have provided some images of the booklets. This was one of the first checklists I posted on my blog. I originally intended to use this as a means of trying to complete checklists of football cards that I had been trying to compile over many years of collecting football cards.
The cards were issued as little booklets of 5 cards with a wrap-around cover that was numbered like the cards inside.
I've listed the covers separately, as well as including them in the proper checklist.
I suspect that not all the cards were issued. I'd be grateful for any help with the missing details....
UPDATE (03-02-2024 21:53):  Paul Adamson has added some information about the booklets, including providing the alphabetic reference for some of them.
UPDATE (29-10-2024 00:08):  Date amended from 1940's to 1950 - see the comment from Carl Wilkes below.

  4. Hi again Alan, I've been looking at this series, again, and I now think "Sports Stars" is 1950, not 1940's, because (a). Bobby Collins is shown in Scotland blue and listed as an international, something which happened for the 1st time in 1950; and the HOF swimmer Jany (card 31) and GB runner Jack Holden (card 28), both of whom won gold medals at their relative sports' European Championships, in mid 1950. What do you think? It seems solid to me. It's a stunning series of cards, my favourite of MM Frame's output. Best wishes to you, as ever, Carl

    1. Hi Carl, That's a great bit of research. I'll certainly go with 1950 as the earliest date of issue. Cheers, Alan.
