These cards were issued in blocks of 4 and readers were encouraged to collect a complete set of these small cards (45mm x 31mm) to win a football. The cards were given out a random over a period of 16 weeks in the four main story-papers issued by D.C. Thomson (Adventure nos 596 - 611; The Rover nos 572 to 587; The Skipper nos 135 - 150: The Wizard nos 539 - 554) with the issues dated from 1 April, 1933 to 15 July, 1933.
I have details of 13 sheets, but there could be many more as some clubs already appear twice.

DeleteHi Alan, I just wanted to ask if anyone out there has a copy of card 43, Bradford (this is Bradford Park Avenue)? The other cards are fairly easy to find, although the Man Utd and Wolves cards seem a little rarer, but the Bradford card is almost non-existent! I've only seen one copy on eBay and it looked a little different to the others so not sure if it was genuine or not.
ReplyDeleteGiven the teams were issued in different combinations, I'm wondering if DC Thomson simply produced very few of them.
I also have a couple more strips of four to add to your list:

Hi, yea you are correct that the Bradford (Park Avenue) #43 is very scarce indeed. I actually have this card so I know it exists but it took many many years to find it!
