J.C. Battock - (BEV-1-2/BAT-200) Football Cards - White backgrounds

1920s
BEV-1-2/BAT-200 Cricket & Football Cards ~ White backgrounds
J.C. Battock
108 cards

These cards are the more familiar Battocks cards, even though these are hard to come by these days. As with the earlier set, they seem to share the 8 different back designs. It's quite possible that all cards are available with all the different back designs, I've only got illustrations of five of the different back designs. One card states that there are 108 cards - 54 cricket and 54 football, whether that refers to these cards or the other ones I don't know, but we know of many more than 53 football cards.
After all my years of collecting, I've never seen the Cardiff City card. If anyone has one in their collection, I'd love see a scan or photocopy.

Different backs:
BEV-1-2/BAT-200 Cricket & Football Cards - "Battocks Football & Jersey Cards" back
BEV-1-2/BAT-200 Cricket & Football Cards - "Battocks Painting & Crayoning Competition" back
BEV-1-2/BAT-200 Cricket & Football Cards - "Cover cards" back
BEV-1-2/BAT-200 Cricket & Football Cards - "Guessing Numbers" back
BEV-1-2/BAT-200 Cricket & Football Cards - "Save Battock's cards" back
BEV-1-2/BAT-200 Cricket & Football Cards - "Skimmer cards" back
BEV-1-2/BAT-200 Cricket & Football Cards - "Snap cards" back
BEV-1-2/BAT-200 Cricket & Football Cards - "We will send you a football or jersey" back

19 known

There are 8 different backs across all the Battock cards, it's quite possible that all cards are available with all the different back designs, but these cards are more difficult to find than the more familiar cards.
UPDATE (14-11-2021 16:21):  I have decided to do some housekeeping regarding these rare Battock cards. I am assuming that the coloured cards can also be found as uncoloured cards in the painting competition as the basic designs for the coloured cards and the uncoloured cards are the same. These cards were used for a painting competition and are rarer than the coloured version that can be seen here - J.C. Battock - (BEV-1-2/BAT-200) Football Cards - Coloured/Uncoloured backgrounds (02) - Uncoloured. Any images I find of the coloured cards will be added here.

I was brought into an e-mail conversation yesterday between Geoff Sherley and Syd from The Clyde Archive...
I checked your site, as I had an old Clyde card from I believe early 1920s. However I see this card i.e. Harry Rae. I believe my card is an original and would appear to be on thin paper cut out probably from a comic. Do you have any detail of the origin of this card. (I have 35 other cards from the same set.)
My singular sphere of interest and knowledge is the history of Clyde FC, so I am unfortunately unable to help in this instance as to the origins of this particular card set. I have, however, copied Alan Jenkins into this email, on the basis that he may already have details of the set or indeed may be interested to hear of your collection. Alan runs the excellent website below, so may be able to provide some information (Alan, hope you don't mind me taking this liberty).
Not at all. Here's the full checklist, along with the Harry Rae 'card' sent by Geoff:

Anglo Confectionery / Match Gum - George Best

1969
George Best
Anglo Confectionery / Match Gum
8

These first came to my attention when Nigel Mercer referenced them in one of his bimonthly newsletters available through his website - Galleries of English Football Cards. It seems that these gum wrappers are part of the reason why George Best never featured on A&BC or Topps football card after 1968 - he'd signed an exclusive deal with Anglo Confectionery. If true, he was probably the first player to protect his image rights in this way.
I am lead to believe that there are eight different wrappers, four different designs, each with two different slogans at the bottom.

George Best in Yellow sweater - - Match Gum - my favourite

George Best in Red Shirt, Looking Left - - Match Gum specially made for sports
George Best in Red Shirt, Looking Left - - Score with Match Gum it's a winner
George Best in Red Shirt, Looking Straight Ahead - - Chew Match Gum it's a winner
George Best in Casual Jacket - - Win your game with Match Gum
