Football cards and stickers issued around the world, from the 1880's to the present day and even some that haven't been issued yet. I don't have any cards for sale, nor do I provide valuations, this blog is just a means of passing on information I have gathered over many decades of collecting. Alan Jenkins.

? postcards (1 football)
A series of cat postcards, with this one showing cats playing football.
The image is by Louis Wain and is known as one of the Napsbury images. These images feature a lot of Blue and Orange cats according to my book called Louis Wain: The Man Who Dew Cats a book that was first published in 1968 and does include the image shown. Napsbury was an Asylum that later became a Hospital. Louis became a patient in June 1930. It closed as a hospital in 1998 and was near St Alban's. regards John
That's interesting. I don't know much about Louis Wain but I have bought a few of his original cat postcards, not all of them football related. I know it's a modern postcard, so I wonder if Zazzle pinched the image from the book, as it doesn't look like old postcards look.

Are Zazzle the producer of the card or are they merely a selling platform?
ReplyDeleteMy wife has a small collection of Wain Postcards and I have 6 or 7 sets of the Wain Crystal Cat Cards (one of which you have on your database).
regards
John
Hi John,
DeleteNot sure, might be both.
Sounds like an interesting collection of the Crystal Cat cards.
Cheers,
