Warus Cards - The Sgt. Pepper Series

1998
The Sgt. Pepper Series
Warus Cards
10 cards

A set of 10 cards celebrating The Beatles' 1967 album Sgt. Peppers Lonley Hearts Club Band. You might find it strange to see this collection on my blog, but there is a reason, even though it might be considered tenuous.
The album cover shows a diverse range of celebrities from all walks of life. There's one footballer on the album cover, Liverpool's Albert Stubbins and he can be seen close to the right-hand edge of card number 1 in this collection, which was issued in a Limited Edition of 2,000 sets.
Albert Stubbins scored 83 goals in 178 appearance for Liverpool between 1946 and 1953, having previously played for Newcastle United. He also scored 188 goals in 231 appearance during wartime games.

25 cards

Another version of the Sports & Games in Many Lands collection. These cards are similar to the W.A. & A.C. Churchman set of Sports & Games in Many Lands, with the phrase Churchman's Cigarettes removed from the illustration.
UPDATE (26-11-2022 16:24):  John Levitt has provided a scan of the back of card number 24 from the Card Collectors Society reprint from 2001. I have shown this card larger than the original illustration to highlight the reference to it being a reprint.
